Do I Need an Accredited Transcript?
Honestly - no. Colleges all over the country accept the transcript that you make as sufficient. However, there are a few scenarios in which people might want to get one. If you are unsure - reach out and we can discuss.
Common Scenarios
SUNY and UMass Schools
as well as some schools in NYS require one
Most schools will accept your transcript as-is. However, there are a few schools that generally require some type of official transcript. (This can vary widely between schools.)
SUNY schools - Almost all SUNY schools that students have applied to in recent years require an accredited transcript to award financial aid.
UMass schools require either 24 credit hours in college or an accredited transcript. (People have negotiated this rule...)
Marist, Stony Brook, and NYU all require something 'official.' Marist requires something accredited. NYU will accept a letter and Stony Brook has gotten more strict in recent years.

Transferring to High School
8th graders going into 9th grade generally do not need anything accredited. However, if you transfer mid-high school career - the high school will often require that you have an accredited transcript. This can vary by town.
Family Preference
Of course, if your family preference is to have something that is accredited, that's fine too! Our philosophy is to equip parents and students with what they need next. If accreditation is helpful - that's great. If it's not - there is no pressure to do it.
